PRIVACY LEVEL SET
This is a lockset which can be locked by a button or turn-piece on the inside, but has no key function. They are used on interior doors in bedroom and bathroom applications. Generally, all privacy locksets have an emergency entry hole on the outside to allow easy access to a room if needed.
PRIVACY SETS are often used for single-occupant restrooms or dressing rooms. They can be locked from the inside with a thumbturn or push button/ turn for privacy, and they are typically unlocked from the outside using a tool rather than a key.
DOORKNOB LOCK
Keyed entry doorknobs are generally used on exterior doors or any door were keyed access is required. ... On the interior they will have either a push button or a turn button that locks or unlocks the door.
A door handle or door knob is used to open or close a door. A door handle is a lever operated device while a door knob usually is shaped like a globe or, in some older homes, an oval. ... The center of the door handle is normally 2 3/8" or 2 3/4" away from the door edge. This is referred to as the backset.
DEADBOLT LOCKS
A dead bolt, deadbolt or dead lock is a locking mechanism distinct from a spring bolt lock because a deadbolt cannot be moved to the open position except by rotating the key. The more common spring bolt lock uses a spring to hold the bolt in place, allowing retraction by applying force to the bolt itself. A deadbolt can therefore make a door more resistant to entry without the correct key.
Common types
A deadlock, if it is cylinder operated, may be either single cylinder or double cylinder. A single cylinder deadlock will accept a key on one side of the lock, but is operated by a twist knob on the other side. Double cylinder locks will accept a key on both sides and therefore do not require (and often do not have) any twist knob. This prevents unwanted unlocking of the door by forced access to the interior twist knob (via a nearby window, for example). Double cylinder locks are sometimes banned from areas because they can be difficult to open from the inside and violate fire safety regulations. Some lock manufacturers also have a "lockable" knob: a key is always needed on one side (usually external), and a twist knob can be used on the other (internal), unless a button has been pressed, in which case a key is also needed on the internal side.
Other types of deadbolts include:
- Classroom-function (thumb-turn only unlocks door)
- Exit-only function (no external cylinder)
- Push-button deadbolt (mechanical or electrical)
- Single cylinder with removable thumb-turn
Expert locksmith recommends high security deadbolt locks for added protection and security.

Tired of losing your house keys?
Do you want to be able to control who enters your home?
Do you want to be able to change a code so that the person who used it can no longer access it?
Locks come in a variety of types and designs to meet a wide range of security needs. While many locks use a simple key-and-tumbler design, some locks use technology that is significantly more advanced. One such lock is the keypad lock that allows users to enter a code on a keypad to unlock the lock instead of using a key. The actual lock mechanism works by needing a small electrical current to release the lock bolt (BATTERY). The current is generated when the proper code is entered at the keypad.
Some keypad locks offer a security feature that prevents the lock from opening for 15 minutes after several failed attempts at entering the code.
Changing Codes
For security purposes, keypad locks allow users to change the codes used to unlock them to new codes of their choosing. Periodic code changes are generally encouraged as they provide added security in case someone was able to discover a previous code. The method by which codes are changed depends upon the lock manufacturer and whether the lock is a stand-alone model or if it is part of a larger security system. There is typically no restriction on how often keypad codes can be changed. Call us for more information
